Sensory-inclusive accommodations include adjustments to lighting, music, and capacity
Sensory bags are available daily for Aquarium guests
CAMDEN, N.J. (April 2, 2024)— In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Adventure Aquarium announced today that it will host sensory-inclusive hours every Sunday during the month of April from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. During these sensory-inclusive hours, the Aquarium will lower the music, soften the lights, and reduce the crowds, all in an effort to create the most enjoyable experience for guests with sensory needs.
Below are the Aquarium’s upcoming sensory-inclusive dates and times for April:
Adventure Aquarium has been certified sensory-inclusive with KultureCity since 2022. This certification ensures that all of the programs and events hosted by the Aquarium are sensory-inclusive. The certification process also requires staff at Adventure Aquarium to be retrained annually to understand and recognize guests with sensory needs and how to handle a sensory overload situation.
Adventure Aquarium offers the following resources for guests with sensory sensitivities:
SENSORY BAGS
A limited number of sensory bags are available to sign out from the Aquarium’s Info or Guest Services Desks and are equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and verbal cue cards.
DESIGNATED QUIET AREA
Adventure Aquarium’s multi-use Nursing and Family Room can be used as a private, quiet space for guests experiencing sensory overload.
HEADPHONE ZONES
Signage is posted around the Aquarium to alert guests to louder areas or “Headphone Zones” and remind them to utilize noise-canceling headphones if needed.
